Masterplan at Gyeongju

South Korea

Site is located on a mountainside with views to the paddy fields and other mountain ranges. The master-planning forms a midpoint between two mountain axes, as the design objective is also centred on harmonising the architecture with the natural mountainscape. Buildings are sensitively camouflaged into the slopes with roofs all landscaped to ensure minimal intrusion to the natural environment. A sense of arrival is created with a floating architectural box that frames the mountains and creating a distinctive identity to this development.
